Bothell, Wash. – HaloSource, Inc., a clean technology company focusing on clean water solutions, was featured recently on a PBS television special highlighting the plight of consumers in India who are faced with daily challenges in accessing clean drinking water.

According to the PBS Nightly Business Report program on “India’s Promise: Watery Wealth,” India’s rivers serve as the primary source of drinking water, repository of untreated sewage and the center for some of its holiest rituals. Now, India’s rivers have become a source of misery for millions.

Much of India’s water is unsafe to drink. While many families have in-home plumbing, the quality of the water is unacceptable for human consumption. Even in middle class neighborhoods, water may be tanked in only sporadically, and piped water may flow for just a few hours a day. When the water is not flowing or pressurized, the old and failing underground pipes allow sewage to seep in and contaminate the water lines.

The PBS program highlighted HaloSource’s affordable HaloPure water purification technology, which kills the bacteria and viruses in drinking water that are the primary cause of diarrhea, dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid, cholera, jaundice, polio and other water-borne diseases.

HaloSource’s director of drinking water systems, Duane Dunk, was featured on the PBS television program. “People in developing countries such as India need a way to solve the drinking water crisis today rather than waiting for government and expensive infrastructure projects,” said Dunk. “It is HaloSource’s mission to give families access to clean, safe and affordable drinking water in their own homes.”

HaloSource is targeting its water purification efforts in developing countries where safe drinking water is a significant health issue. “Our strategy is to co-brand and partner with the leading water treatment companies around the world,” said John Kaestle, HaloSource president and CEO. “In India, HaloSource’s partner is Eureka Forbes, India’s largest household water purification company, whose product brands are household names.”

Recently, Eureka Forbes introduced the HaloPure-powered AquaSure water purifier, which purifies water in homes, even when there’s no electricity or piped water. HaloSource recently established a new operating company in India, HaloSource Technologies Pvt. Ltd., to provide HaloPure water purification products to Eureka Forbes.
