Bothell, Wash. -- HaloSource Inc., an antimicrobial technology
company focusing on safe water and infection control, has
announced that Unilever Technology Ventures, the venture arm
of UK consumer goods giant Unilever, has led its latest round
of financing. HaloSource will use the $6 million in funding
to accelerate its drinking water purification business in
the developing world.
"HaloSource is poised to be a significant player in
the $18 billion global market for drinking water solutions
that is projected to grow to $40 billion by 2011," said
James Thompson, HaloSource vice president and chief financial
officer. "We're excited about the success of our commercial
efforts in India and plan to replicate that model in other
developing world markets."
London-based Unilever is taking a growing interest in water
purification technology. "There is tremendous potential
for HaloSource technologies, particularly in the area of water
purification," said Dr. Min Berbon, a principal at UTV.
"With the emergence of the middle class in many developing
countries, people are very much concerned about the purity
and safety of drinking water. We have high expectations for
this investment."
The round of funding was over-subscribed with existing investors
Alexander Hutton Venture Partners, WRF Capital and Britannia
Holdings Ltd. participating, as well as several existing angel
investors.
