01. What is the
HaloShield® antimicrobial enhanced treatment and who makes it?
HaloShield-powered fabrics, in combination with chlorine
bleach sanitizers*
leave the item clean and fresh. HaloSource provides the HaloShield technology
that is applied to the fabrics.
02. How does HaloShield
technology work?
The HaloShield patented
technology acts as a “stabilizer” for chlorine
bleach sanitizers, capturing and holding the chlorine in place
to protect the fabric surface. Because the chlorine remains locked
on the surface of the fabric, instead of evaporating, HaloShield
offers protection against a broad range
of microbes. HaloShield-powered fabrics employ
N-halamine technology to lock in chlorine to nearly any fabric.
03. What products
can HaloShield be used on?
The treatment can be applied to cellulosic fibers and fabrics
(cotton, linen and rayon) or blends containing cellulosic
fibers. Compatible products include a wide array of apparel,
bed linens, incontinence underpads, towels and blankets.
04. What is the
benefit of HaloShield-powered textiles?
HaloShield-treated textiles that are washed with a chlorine-based
sanitizer help protect the textile from a broad range of
microbes.
05. Is the HaloShield
treatment on textiles safe?
HaloShield treatment is completely inert and safe and will
not affect the integrity or longevity of fabrics. Simply washing
with a chlorine bleach sanitizer during a regular wash cycle
renews the chlorine bound to the HaloShield technology. HaloShield-treated
fabrics remain as soft as the fabric would be if left untreated.
06. Why not just
use chlorine bleach?
Chlorine may be the best antimicrobial agent available, but
without HaloShield binding, chlorine’s effects don’t
last. HaloShield-powered textiles harness chlorine’s
killing power to continuously protect against
odor. This ability is renewed with each washing for the
life of the fabric.
07. How does the
HaloShield coating differ from other antimicrobial treatments?
No other antimicrobial coating on the market, when combined
with chlorine bleach, has the speed and safety of
HaloShield-powered items.
08. Does HaloShield
affect the original properties of the fabric?
No. The application of HaloShield coating will not change
other properties of fabrics, such as color, hand (feel), performance
or smell. Fabrics maintain their original softness.
09. How long
does HaloShield treatment last?
The antimicrobial power of chlorine* bound to HaloShield-treated
fabrics can be renewed again and again for the life of the
fabric through a simple chlorine wash cycle. That means the
protection and odor control continue throughout the life of
the product.
10. Are there
any textile products unsuitable for HaloShield treatment?
Finished, sewn garments and fabrics cannot be treated after completion due to the requirement
of a wet finishing stage of yardage goods.
11. How can the
safety and functionality of HaloShield-treated fabrics be
guaranteed?
Recognized test methods established by the American Association
of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) were used to ensure
that the performance of HaloShield-fabrics meets or exceeds
textile industry standards. Studies and risk
assessment have been conducted to determine the skin sensitivity to the HaloShield treatment.
12. Why is washing
in chlorine bleach more effective than other cleaning methods?
Chlorine bleach has been the most effective sanitizer on the
market for 100 years. Chlorine bleach is the most powerful
and effective sanitizer for a broad spectrum of germs.
13. Where can
I buy HaloShield-powered fabrics?
HaloSource has partnered with several distributors. Medline
Industries distributes items for the health care market in
the United States.
14. How much
does HaloShield treatment cost?
Applied in the finishing process of textiles, the HaloShield
technology is extremely cost-effective.
Cost is dependent on the performance level and durability
required.
